Bamboo Palm - The Beautiful Lovable Palms
69The Bamboo Palms
The bamboo palm (chamaedorea seifrizii) is a beautiful, commonly kept houseplant that works as an air purifier. It has a bamboo like stem and a few of these stems grow from an underground bulb of roots. Leaves are flat, soft and fragile. It will grow to a maximum height of about 10 feet.
Here is some more information on this plant.
Propagation
You can easily propagate this plant from seeds. Remove the fruit coating from the seed after soaking it in warm water for a couple of days. Soaking the fruits make it easier for you to pull the fruit off of it. Then germinate the seed in rich soil mix either in re-closable zip lock bags or some tub or tray. Make sure the soil mix is always moist but not wet. You will not have to keep the soil moist manually in the reclosable bag because it will retain the moisture. The bamboo palm seeds can take a lot of time for germination. They can take up to nine months to germinate. Once the seeds have germinated and developed a root system, you can place them in pots. Never expose the seedlings to bright or direct sunlight if you want them to survive.
Scientific Name
Their scientific name is chamaedorea seifrizii.
Care
It is not a hardy plant and will die without proper care.
Water: Water frequently and keep the soil uniformly moist but not wet. This plant being a native to tropical areas requires frequent watering.
Soil: Well drained and rich soil.
Sun: Never place it in direct sunlight. I almost kill a beautiful healthy bamboo palm with direct sunlight. Keep it in moderate indirect sunlight. In its native range, the plant grows under the shade of thick trees.
Temperature: Moderate, prevent it from extreme cold.
Some More Care tips:
Prune lower unhealthy branches on a regular basis.
Fertilize it infrequently during the growing season with a mild fertilizer.
Keep the leaves clean.
Benefits
This plant is an amazing air purifier and removes some toxic elements from the air around it.

I always wanted one of these in our home and so now I have bookmarked this hub, thank you so much for all of the information. :)
Now I know how to take care of them.:)
Well I think maybe I need one of these!! They are just lovely and useful. Great hub!
I love these palms. I have a couple
What a beautiful plant, I wonder if it would do well in my home up here in Maine?
Bamboo trees and palm trees look awesome.. they look great .. I just love these trees .. Have some old memories with the trees when I was young and visited India.. Kerela is quite famous for palm beaches and trees..nice hub,..
I got seeds and started planted them but I still have not seen anything and it has been more than 4 weeks. Do you have any tips?
I saw the tips on the top now, thx.
I have a question about my bamboo palm. There are only 2 stems left of my 7 feet tall bamboo plam. These 2 stems are very healthy. Is there any way I can get more stems to grow from the roots?
Yes, I was wondering if new stems will grow from the soil. My Chinese fan palms grow many new stems from the roots under the soil. I live in Taiwan where it is reaching 30C+ (90F+) daily. I have it by a south facing window. I've had the plant for about 4 years and the two stems left have new growth and seem very happy. To be honest, since we've moved into our new flat (1 year ago) the plant has been moved around, looking for the "right place." It will stay here it is now so I hope it will start to grow more.
LOL...... I thought I was sure!? Yes, I matched it to photos on the internet and spoke to my local gardener. There are definitely several new shoots coming out of the soil.
wow! i haven't seen the picture of bamboos for agers i love this thing
How long does it take to grow once germinated? And can you buy the seeds somewhere?
@mantikore try Amazon that's where I got mine. I just planted them yesterday.
I recently purchased one of these for my apartment. I am a huge fan of the bamboo look. Actually got one of those little lucky bamboos to like 5 feet tall. So the issue I am having is it is putting out these new growths from the stem that have these little nodules on them. Are these new branches? Fruit? Should they be trimmed? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, I have this. Low maintenance, always pretty.
My father used to landscape our home with it. He took great care of them.
Thank you for sharing.
