Wireless Technologies
With the passage of time and development in technology, now we can get many important things wireless in our everyday life. Lets have a look at ten very important wireless technologies.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is an open wireless protocol used for the exchange of data over short distances between both fixed and mobile devices by creating a PAN.
DECT
Designed for short range like Bluetooth, DECT can be used for voice, fax and multimedia communication over the cordless for short range. More than a hundred countries are using DECT as a protocol for cordless communications. DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication.
DECT 6.0 are the DECT devices made for USA & Canada and use a little higher frequency than typical DECT devices.
ZigBee
This wireless networking standard is mainly aimed at remote control and sensor applications. Technically, ZigBee is a specification for a suite of high level communication protocols using small, low-power digital radios.
Wibree
It is exactly the same as Bluetooth, except from the fact that it consumes less than half of the current consumed by Bluetooth. Wibree consumes anywhere from 10% to 50% of the energy consumed by Bluetooth, with peak current consumption being 15 mA.
NFC
NFC stands for Near Field Communication. As the name implies, NFC works only for short range and can exchange data between devices over a 4 inch distance. It is a simple extension of the ISO/IEC 14443 proximity-card standard.
IEEE 802.22 WRAN Standard
WRAN stands for Wireless Regional Area Network and IEEE 802.22 is a standard for it. The development of this standard is aimed at sharing geographically unused spectrum allocated to the Television Broadcast Service by using cognitive radio techniques on a non-interfering basis to bring broadband access to hard-to-reach areas.
WiMAX
WiMAX is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless transmission of data using a number of transmission modes to do so. With the development of WiMAX, now it is expected to provide the phone and internet access to the areas lacking these facilities, as phone and cable companies haven't yet run wires to these locations.
UWB
Ultra Wideband (UWB) is a radio technology that can be used at very low energy levels for high bandwidth communications in a short range. UWB allows us to carry data at a very high data transfer rate.
Wireless USB
It is a short-range wireless radio communication protocol which provides high-bandwidth.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance that can be used with certified products that belong to a class of wireless local area network (WLAN) devices based on the commonly known IEEE 802.11 standards.
